On a recent visit to Oakridge Primary School, Jeremy met the Head, Paul Fisher. He congratulated Mr Fisher, the staff and pupils of the school for the excellent SATS results.
In 2009, Oakridge achieved the 6th highest results in England.
Mr Fisher also explained how the school’s motto ‘Reaching for the Stars’ is put into practice through encouraging each pupil to fulfil his or her potential and take responsibility for their future.
Jeremy said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the school. There was a super atmosphere in every classroom which I visited; and the quality of work on display was in many cases outstanding.
“Paul Fisher and I also discussed the future of education in Staffordshire– a subject on which he and I are both passionate. I stressed that I will continue to campaign for fairer funding for our schools from the Government. Staffordshire receives on average £300 fewer per pupil than the average for England. Oakridge suffers particularly from this.
“However I was impressed with the determination with which Oakridge had tackled the problem of balancing the budget. Only this week, he and a number of the children had spent lunchtime clearing the snow away from the car park so that a meeting could go ahead, earning the school much needed funds.”
