Working for you - the Conservative controlled Stafford Borough Council:
Budget and economy
Have controlled the Borough's finances so that in all four of our budgets our share of the council tax has increased by no more than the rate of inflation. This was the same for the four years previously, since the Conservative party took control of the administration of the Borough Council. This year Council Tax has been frozen and we have a promise that we will freeze our section of council tax next year also.
Have encouraged the establishment and growth of new small businesses in the Borough via the new start-up centre.
Have won several grants from Central Government in return for improving the efficiency of planning and other services.
Over the next four years your Conservative Team will:
Will continue the council tax freeze for 2012/13. Will preserve front-line services. Will press for a reduction in the number of councillors from 59 to 40 for implementation at the 2015 elections. Will increase the items that are able to be recycled and improve further our recycling performance. Will look closely at devolving budgets to local areas working with parish councils and local residents associations. We will continue to promote a balanced economy that provides a wide range of employment opportunities for the people within the Borough.
